The same village, three spellings
Nine of the twenty two Dholera villages are spelled differently depending on which government document you are holding. If you search records under one spelling and the entry was filed under another, you will find nothing and conclude the wrong thing.
These names were written in Gujarati and then transliterated into the Latin alphabet by different offices at different times. Nobody agreed a house style, so the same village comes out as Bavaliyari in one document and Bavliyari in another.
It affects 3 of the twenty two. This site uses the 2009 gazette spelling throughout, because the gazette is the document that declared the region, and carries every other spelling on the page so a search on any form still finds the record.
None of the twenty two has a Gujarati spelling in any document we hold, so no Gujarati name is printed anywhere on this site. Transliterating one back would be inventing it.

The census code in the last column is the one thing that does not change with the spelling. If you are trying to establish that two records are the same village, that code will do it and the name will not.

What to do about it
- When you search any land record, try every spelling on this page for that village before concluding a record does not exist.
- Use the census code to prove two documents mean the same village. Names will not prove it.
- Treat the 2009 gazette spelling as the legal one, since that is the document that declared the region.
- Be suspicious of a document that uses a spelling appearing in none of the three columns above.
