Dhandhuka, Barwala, and no Dholera

A taluka is the administrative block between a village and a district, and it is what appears on land records and addresses. Every Dholera village sat in one of two of them in 2009, and neither of them is called Dholera.

When the region was declared in 2009, its twenty two villages sat in two talukas of Ahmedabad district: 19 in Dhandhuka and 3 in Barwala.

You will see Dholera taluka written on listings, brochures and sometimes on addresses. Our documents record that no such taluka has been established. Dholera is the name of a village, and of the region declared around it, not of an administrative block.

This matters when you are looking up land records, because the taluka is part of how a record is filed. Search under a taluka that does not exist and you will find nothing.

The 2009 order groups the villages by taluka and numbers them separately within each group, which is why two villages can share a serial number. The census sub district column is a separate record system and is shown so you can match one against the other.

Every figure in this table is our arithmetic. The 2009 order does not print any taluka level total, only the grand total for all twenty two.

Where the confusion comes fromDholera is a village name and the name of the declared region. Neither makes it a taluka.

Dholera village itself has its own record, in Dhandhuka taluka, at the Dholera village page. The three separate lists of Dholera villages that get mixed up with each other are set out on the village register.
